Rhydymwyn FC clinched a dramatic 95th minute winner to take all three points in their first Ardal North West fixture of the season.

Goals from Nathan Mendoza and Sam Haley, in the 59th and 95th minutes, both assisted by Iwan Rogers, gave the hosts victory despite a 90th minute equaliser from Brickfield’s Harry Massey.

The game marked a landmark moment for Rhydymwyn as their first league fixture since March 2020, and they came into in good form after cup wins over Llandyrnog United and Meliden FC.

In the first half, the visitors had good chances through Parry and Dawson, but a strong performance from the centre-back duo of Harry Massey and captain Connor Whelan helped keep the game goalless at half time.

Following the restart, it was Brickfield who threatened first, with a free kick which hit the left post in a warning for Anthony Weaver and Jordan Parry’s side.

Just before the hour mark in the 59th, the deadlock was finally broken by Nathan Mendoza who got a header inside the box via a well taken free kick from Iwan Rogers.

With a 1-0 lead, Rhydymwyn went onto control the game and looked to have done enough as the 90th minute approached, but Brickfield’s Harry Massey got on the scoresheet to make it 1-1 after the referee judged the ball to have crossed the line as both sides grappled for possession inside the six-yard box.

But there was another twist in the final kick of the game, when Rhydymwyn again won a free kick near the top right corner of the pitch, as they had for Mendoza’s opener.

Rogers again sent a quality delivery in, and substitute Sam Haley was there to head in a 95th minute winner for Rhydymwyn.

The result sees them register their first win of the season at the first time of asking, as they now turn their attentions to FAW Amateur Trophy action this Saturday 7th August at Vicarage Road for a 2:00pm kick off.
